Historical Background
Huddersfield Town was founded in 1908, and joined the Football League just over two years later for the 1910/11 season. The club is one of only four that have managed to win three Football League titles in a row (the other teams being Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool), and it achieved that feat at the end of the 1925/26 season, beating Arsenal into second place. Whilst that was long before fans had the chance to watch Huddersfield Town on TV, it is an accomplishment which the club will always be proud of.
Also known as The Terriers, Huddersfield Town were promoted to the Premier League for the 2018/19 season, and remain playing in the highest tier.
Stadium
Huddersfield Town was originally based at Leeds Road stadium in Huddersfield, and remained there until 1994, when the team moved to the newly-constructed Kirklees Stadium. Sponsorship deals have meant that Kirklees Stadium has been known by several other names throughout Huddersfield Town’s occupancy, including Alfred McAlpine Stadium and Galpham Stadium. It is currently known as John Smith’s Stadium – a name that has been in force since 2012.
Crest and Colours
The coat of arms of Huddersfield has inspired the design of the club’s badge from the outset, and the present badge is predominantly coloured blue, white and yellow, with a small amount of black.
Blue and white are also the colours of the Huddersfield Town home strip, which comprises a shirt of blue and white vertical stripes, and white shorts and socks with blue embellishments. The design of Huddersfield Town’s away strip is the same as for its home strip, but the colours red and black are used instead of blue and white.
Key Players and Managers
Dean Hoyle has been the chairman and majority shareholder of Huddersfield Town since 2009. Previous owners of note include Barry Rubery, David Taylor and Ken Davy.
Jan Siewart has been the manager since January 2019. The team has previously been managed by David Wagner and Lee Clark.
Key former players for Huddersfield Town include Denis Law, Bill Shankly, Peter Doherty, Clem Stephenson, Alex Smithies and Tom Cowan.
Key players on the current squad include captain Tommy Smith, goalkeeper Jonas Lössl, forward Karlan Grant, midfielder Aaron Mooy and defender Terence Kongolo.
